It is Onam festival today, the day Malayalees celebrate the visit of the mythical demon king Mahabali, who ruled the kingdom with so well that it became the envy of even the Gods. They hatched a plan to send him to the netherworld and with the help of Lord Vishnu, he was supressed. (literally). His final wish was that he wanted to come back every year to see his countrymen. And hence we decorate homes, make the feast , arrange flowers in a decorative pattern - all so that the king will be contended. If only the politicians were at least a bit like this king...but i guess they dont need to because the vily machinery of democracy are such that people forget everything every five years and bring the opposition to power...and this goes on in a cycle...hmmm.Talking about the Onam, perhaps this is the only incarnation of Lord Vishnu that I find no justification at all. Why should the Lord incarnate to supress a good king? Dont the demons too have a right to a just and proper rule? to prosperity? Its as if the "devas" would never allow the demons to come up..this can be ported to the modern day scenario also, i guess.

Well a lil bit of philosophy...Sometimes u can find 2 good firends being in the opposite teams when they play a match n then battle fiercely. Same way, Mahabali was Vishu's "greatest" devotee ever, neither was he suppressed from ruling again nor was he stamped into the hellish planets! He was sent to a special planet protected by the Lord's disc (Sudarshan chakra)and that this chakra would guard him against all the bad things that would threaten his life or spiritual well being! He was also blessed that inthe begining of next creation he would rule the planet earth! So this in the management world we call it "Paid joining leave" ! Before your actual work start you can have a vaccation with pay! eehehehe....
